An Update on COVID-19 Response from Mayor Michael McGinty

Dear Friends,

I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the response of myself and the Village Board regarding the Covid-19 Pandemic.

First, I want to thank each and every resident for heeding the stay at home order by the Governor to help combat this pandemic. I urge everyone to continue to listen to our health professionals and stay at home. According to the Centers for Disease Control these next two weeks are pivotal weeks and they anticipate that we will reach the apex during this time and the number will begin to recede. But I cannot stress enough to stay home and stop the spread.

Working together with the Village Board we continue to ascertain the vital information needed for our first responders in order to keep them safe on their fire and ambulance calls. Our Fire Department is the lifeblood of our community and they have been fantastic in their continued response to the needs of Island Park. I want to thank the Chiefs and members of the Island Park Fire Department for their service to our Village and the entire community.

The Department of Public Works will continue the essential pickup of regular garbage service; however we will be suspending recycling services, for the safety and wellbeing of our DPW workers. I will continue to update you on this. We are proud of the efforts of the DPW Staff who shoulder the responsibility of garbage and rubbish removal. Their efforts are vital to the public health and safety of our residents and are greatly appreciated.

While we have closed Village Hall to the public and instituted an appointment system if you need to come to Village Hall, rest assured that Village business continues each and every day and essential services continue. I thank our Village staff for helping us to keep Village business current.

The Island Park School System continues to run effectively and efficiently and keeping the children of our community well-educated during this difficult time. I sincerely thank Dr. Rosmarie Bovino and our wonderful teachers and staff for doing everything to make sure this online learning platform was put in place and running smoothly. Additionally, the Island Park Library under the guidance of its director, Jessica Koenig, continues to update the library Facebook page with crafts and other activities for our children and online books are available as well. I even hear that we have a few new Village residents that were recently born; I can’t wait to see them when they return home.

Deputy Mayor Annarella, Trustees Irene Naudus, Barbara Volpe-Ried, Michael Gagliardi and myself are working together to keep Island Park safe but we need everyone’s help through social distancing and staying home!! We will get through this together as a community and Island Park’s Renaissance will not only be one of the Village but also of each and every one of us! On behalf of myself and the Village Board—Stay Safe!

Sincerely,
Michael McGinty, Mayor
